Officials report that 46 Pilot whales have beached themselves on a southern island in Indonesia and 43 have died, reported NBC News.  Local authorities have made heroic attempts to save the remaining three whales, although they continue to swim back to shore. 

Pramudya Harzani with the nonprofit Jakarta Animal Aid Network said the whales washed ashore between Timor and Sumba Islands in southern Indonesia late Monday.
